We can usually schedule phone consults within 1 business day and in person consultations/design meetings within 10 days. As far as scheduling the groundbreaking of your project, we average a 4-12 week lead time depending on the season and schedule.
A basic rule of thumb would be one working week per $15,000 of work.
Yes, all plants and trees are guaranteed for 1 year. This does not cover loss due to wildlife. All structural items are guaranteed for 3 years for craftsmanship. This does not cover issues caused by flooding or acts of nature.
No, we do not offer weekly mowing, weeding, or trimming maintenance. We recommend “Tailored Lawn Care” for all your maintenance and small irrigation needs.
Yes and No. Yes we need a decision maker to be available during the construction phase, but not necessarily home during the work day. The crew will not need anything from the homeowner during the work day. Frequently small details do come up during the build that via call or text can be addressed. This helps tremendously in the customer getting exactly what they want.
Pavers deliver excellent performance as a paved surface that is both smooth and functional yet has a craftsman feel and appearance. Pavers are also a great non-skid surface that is still smooth enough for bare feet. This makes them an excellent pool deck material.
No, stamped concrete is generally the same price or more expensive than pavers.
Yes, if it is the bathroom for pets there can be odor problems. These are easily dealt with by neutralizing the odors with diluted bleach water, simple green, or baking soda powder.
The two options in our area are a blue grass blend or a fescue. The blue grass is a softer blade and darker green. The fescue is a bit courser feeling and a lighter shade of green. The number one reason for fescue is the durability. The fescue has much deeper roots and can self repair after damage occurs. It is commonly found in neighborhood parks and schools.
Generally all fruit trees do well here except for citrus and avocado trees. Apples, cherries, peaches, plums and apricots do well.
We specialize in free standing (not connected to your house) shade structures made out of wood or steel up to approximately 200 square feet.
The landscape designer starts by asking leading questions like: Who else is excited about this project? What activities would you like to use the space for? What features would you like to have (ie: fire pit, bbq, hot tub, water feature…?) Do you like modern things with straight lines, or natural and flowy things? Then we start designing around the Dream list. The structures and focal points get placed first and then the soft scape like grass, trees and shrubs get placed to create amazing transitions. This is how we get to a first draft, and an estimate. There is generally at least one revision to a design before everyone is happy.
Inevitably….good ideas seem to come to light after construction has begun. When this happens, any change to the scope of work that affects materials and work progress will be considered a change order. Some small changes if made early enough can be done without a change order. This will be determined by the Production Manager. If a change order is requested we need a written acceptance of the change. This should be with a formal quote amendment but in a pinch a text from the owner and the production manager detailing the scope of work and cost will suffice. Any change order greater than $2,000 in value will require a progress payment before the change is implemented.
Yes and No. We have multiple construction crews working at the same time but we do not pull a crew off of one job to work on another. Each crew sticks with the same project from beginning to end. The only exception to this is when our work is stopped because of another trade that is in front of us.
Yes, most of the time concrete is less expensive than pavers. This is the most true on larger areas that measure more than 2,000 square feet. On smaller areas less than 500 square feet concrete can be the same if not more expensive than pavers.
There are multiple answers to this but to sum it up: with proper installation pavers and concrete should last equally as long. They are both concrete.
Do you plan to shovel snow off of your new paved surface? Concrete is easier to shovel snow off of because there are not as many small joints to catch the edge of the snow shovel. On a driveway installation concrete can offer a strength advantage with lateral stability. If your driveway has turns in it, requires you to turn ninety degrees to pull in and out of the garage or you plan to back trailers in and out of the drive concrete will be stronger. Frequently we combine a concrete band border around a paver driveway to get the lateral strength with the paver ashetic.
This one really comes down to personal preference and the use of the lawn. Artificial turf will last decades in a space with low traffic. In a kids playground it can look worn out rapidly. Artificial turf also gets really hot in the sun in mid summer, no fun for kids and dogs. Real grass can get damaged by pets and high traffic, requiring regular maintenance and sprinklers. Ben’s recommendation: put artificial turf in front yards and us in areas for decorative greenery, install real grass for kids and dogs.
Concrete curbing is the most durable and cost effective edging for your lawn.
GDL will provide the landscape design and if needed can assist in filling out the application forms. The home owner will submit the documents. Any revisions or clarification requested by the HOA will be made by us.
We define a low maintenance yard as one that does not require weekly maintenance of grass, trees, and shrubs or irrigation. On a low maintenance zero scape yard, expect to have to trim shrubs once every fall and do a spring clean up.
Yes, as long as we follow these principles: the water must drain away from the house, can not drain to the neighbors yard, and must exit the front of your property.
